Sports Update

January 25, 2012
Last night the SSC Varsity Soccer team beat Magee 3-1. Scoring goals were, Tom Burcham, Evan Lundgren, and Taylor Russo. The Rock’s will advance to the next round playoffs on Friday, January 27, against NE Jones. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM. Way to go Rocks!

January 23, 2012
In high school soccer action, on Friday evening, the JV and Varsity both won against Vancleave. The JV won 8 to 0. Payton Karno and Gillerman Lan-Zambrano each scored 2 goals.   Tom Burcham, John Flood, Patrick McRaney and Michael Haas each scored a goal apiece. In the Varsity game, the Rocks won 2 to 0. Curtis Libys and Nolan Bevis scored.

On Saturday the JV and Varsity Soccer won both games over Poplarville. The JV won 5 to 0 with goals by Tom Burcham, Trey Asher, John Flood, Nick Romano and Matthew Tucker. The Varsity won 2 to 0 with goals by Curtis Libys and Nolan Bevis.

In JH Basketball action on Saturday the Rocks defeated Oak Grave in 7th, 8th grade and 7th B team action.

Malcolm Reid

WLOX from Biloxi, MS did a story on our very own Malcolm Reid. Malcolm, who stands at 4'9", is starting point guard and co-captain of the SSC Rock-A-Chaw Basketball Team.

Fall Sports Awards

St. Stanislaus highlighted its’ fall sports during their annual Fall Sports Awards Convocation on January 11, 2012 in the St. Stanislaus College Café. Athletes in Cross Country, Swimming, and Football were recognized for participation, earning a varsity letter, and/or were recognized for achieving academic excellence. Seventy-seven percent of the athletes honored at the convocation qualified for the Academic Excellence certificates including 91% of the Swim Team, 88% of the Varsity Cross Country Team, 86% of the Jr High Cross Country Team, 81% of the Jr High Football Team, and the High School Football Team had a combined G.P.A. of 3.20.

Individual awards were presented to players in each sport based on their individual accomplishments.

Junior High Cross Country
Royce Garcia, Most Improved Runner; Michael Sandoz, Hardest Worker; Alex Hoelzel, Most Valuable Runner; Brendon Caliva, Coach’s Award; and Jared Mumme, Mr. Rock-A-Chaw.

Varsity Cross Country
Gavin Gros, Most Improved Runner; Bret Reinhart, Hardest Worker; Wyatt Scott, Most Valuable Runner; Sawyer Danielson, Coach’s Award; and Bingham Wikoff, Mr. Rock-A-Chaw.

Sailing Wins Allstate

Congratulations to the St. Stanislaus Sailing Team for winning the 2011 Allstate Sugar Bowl Championship Regatta held in New Orleans this weekend. Sailors from 8 Mississippi and Louisiana high schools competed in heavy wind conditions on Saturday and Sunday completing a total of 16 races.

St. Stanislaus placed first, Brother Martin second, and De La Salle third. Our sailors were: Christian App, Tomas Braly, Michael Breaux, Cameron James, Kathryn Kidd, Alex Northington, Thomas Phares, Cole Riffe, Luke Rosetti, Wright Singley, David Skladzien, and Chris Trapani.

Cross Country Recap

Congratulations to Coach Dawson McCall and the Varsity Thinclads traveled to Jackson this past Saturday to compete in the 4A State Championships. For the second consecutive year, the team ran extremely well, taking 2nd overall to Pontotoc in a tight race. Standout performances were delivered by All State Qualifiers, Wyatt Scott and Bingham Wikoff, who came in 2nd and 3rd, respectively, while Gavin Gros finished 14th overall. Congratulations, gentlemen, on an outstanding finish to the Cross Country season! We’re very proud of you!

Swim Team 2nd in State

Congratulations to the Swim Team who placed Second in the MHSAA Class I State Championships on Saturday.

Congratulations to the Relay Team of Thomas Allard, John-Paul Drouilhet, Daniel Kergosien, and Bennett Holland, who broke two school records (200 Yard Free Relay, 1:38.13 and 400 Yard Relay 3:40.66) at the MHSAA State Swim Meet.

Other Key Rock-A-Chaw finishes were:

Bennett Holland and Thomas Allard medaled with their Second and Third place finishes in the 200 Yard Freestyle

Andrew Lucore medaled with a Third Place finish in the 100 Yard Breastroke

Thomas Allard medaled with his Third Place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle

Daniel Kergosien finished Fourth in the 100 Yard Freestyle

Cameron James finished Fourth in the 200 Yard IM and the 100 Yard Breastroke

The Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay Team of Robert Simpson, Andrew Lucore, Cameron James, and Will Hazen placed Fourth

John-Paul Drouilhet finished Fifth in the 100 Yard Backstroke

John-Paul Drouilhet finished Sixth in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and

Daniel Kergosien and Will Hazen finished Sixth and Seventh respectively in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
